What is First Person View (FPV) Flying?
The pilot directs the quadcopter through a race course while wearing a set of virtual reality goggles. The drone is equipped with a video camera and video transmitter that sends the live video signal back to the googles.
When you wear the FPV goggles, your brain convinces you that you are part of the quadcopter and actually flying. It’s like an out-of-body experience. As the quadcopter does a roll or a big dive, your brain interprets what your eyes are seeing and makes your stomach turn. Take a high speed pass by a tree and you actually move your head to get out of the way. It’s the closest thing to flying while keeping your feet on the ground.
